Its been approximately five months since I last wrote a piece/blog/pile of ****. Over these last few months I have thought about many pieces that I could do, and then decided against it after seeing similar pieces on other websites. I automatically think ‘Oh mine can’t be as good’ or whatever. I have decided to stop be so self deprecating and write this blog for me, rather than the ‘audience’, which is what I think was putting me off somewhat.
Its time to start believing in me, again. The football season has started anew, and so shall I. Above when I say that I’ll write for me, that doesn’t mean it won’t be my best, just that I’ll less critical and do the pieces anyway, instead of automatically thinking a piece that is written by a ‘professional’ is necessarily better than mine. So, what if it is? It ought to be, right? Again, as before, it won’t all be about football. I shall muse about wines, beers, exhibitions, but football will feature heavily.
Over the last five months I have done quite a lot, including falling in love with Belgium and its wondrous range of beers – beers with 11% alcohol, but that tasted divine. Nothing special brew about them. I think we, I went with the missus, tried about 15 over the four days we were there, and there were many left untouched. I WILL be going to Belgium again. I recommend it to anyone, its a wonderful country – lots to see and do. Ypres and its monument to the lost soldiers is something I’ll never forget.
We went to the BBC’s Hackney Weekend, where we seen possibly the best live set we’ll ever see, performed by Jack White. It was spine-tingling. You can catch the set on youtube. I’ve always been a White Stripes fan, and just wanted to hear Jack’s new stuff live, I didn’t expect to hear Seven Nation Army live, in a glorified tent.
We celebrated five years together, with champagne in a hot tub. Sadly, there was no time machine.
And there was some football tournament thingy on, and some athletics events. These were quite good, especially the opening ceremony of one.
Oh, and we got an allotment. You can follow how we progress via http://digdigdigdigdigging.wordpress.com/
Onwards and upwards.
